Pearl River rodeo has strong showing in 2020-21 debut

MARSHALL, Mo. — The Pearl River rodeo team kicked off its season this past weekend when it competed in the Missouri Valley College rodeo competition. Six members of the team placed in the top ten in various competitions; the men placed fourth in the competition and the women placed fifth.

A total of 10 teams competed in Marshall, Mo.

Below is a list of Wildcats who placed:

  • Koby Sanchez (Ethel, La.) and Bryce Graves (Poplarville) placed second in team roping
  • Sarah Booty (Liberty; Amite County) placed second in the first round and had the fourth-best average in goat tying
  • Roper Stoots (Louisville) and Jeb Stewart (Hurley) both placed in the top ten for calf roping
  • Pacey McBride (Poplarville) placed in the top ten in steer wrestling

While new head coach Frank Graves Jr. was pleased with his team's performance, he also felt there is a lot of room for improvement.

"I think overall we did pretty good," he said. "I think with all the freshmen that we have, some of them got a little nervous and that showed but overall we did good.

"We'll work on getting better and we'll have more experience going into the next competition."

The team's next competition is Sept. 24 when the Wildcats travel to West Alabama.
