POPLARVILLE, Miss — The Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced its Players of the Week awards Tuesday, and Pearl River volleyball's Claire Smith (Coldwater; Lewisburg) took home the offensive award.
The standout performance came during a packed week that included two MACCC matchups against Northwest and Meridian, along with four non-conference contests in the Alabama Gulf Coast Classic. There, the Wildcats took on a challenging slate that featured No. 20 Lurleen B. Wallace, Snead State, Gadsden State, and United States Sports Academy.
Smith's consistent impact across all six matches played a key role in her earning the weekly honor. She totaled 217 assists, seven service aces, and 52 digs, while also contributing 10 block assists and 10 kills.
This week's performance is a continuation of her remarkable freshman year. To date, Smith has amassed a Pearl River single-season record 709 assists, along with 212 digs, 34 kills, and 34 service aces.
