SCOOBA, Miss. — The No. 14 Pearl River women's soccer team spread the wealth Friday afternoon, using five different goal scorers to cruise past East Mississippi 6-0.
"It's great to have multiple players get involved on offense. I think we still could have been a little bit sharper in front of the net, but you'll take six goals any day," head coach Henrik Madsen said. "It's challenging when you have a longer trip and a different game time, so it was good to see the girls respond to that and get another win."
Pearl River (8-3 overall; 4-3 MACCC) broke through 14 minutes into the match when Addy Grace Alexander(Poplarville) was in the right place to finish off a Julia Hoffman (Bay St. Louis; Bay) shot that ricocheted off the crossbar, making it 1-0.
Callie Jones (Laurel; West Jones) doubled the advantage 10 minutes later, and Alesha Gale (Rotherham, England) added to it in the 27th minute, finishing off a pass from fellow England native Holly Jones (Liverpool, England).
Jones then turned from provider to scorer, slamming home a Margaret Compretta (Waveland; Our Lady Academy) pass to make it 4-0. The English duo linked up again for the fifth goal, as Jones found Gale for her second of the match.
Emily Boles (Gulfport) capped off the scoring with three minutes left, slotting home a Shayla Nguyen (Long Beach) assist to seal the 6-0 victory.
