POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River freshman keeper Azaria Breaux (Gulfport) turned in a stellar week between the pipes for the Wildcats. After helping PRCC go 1-0-1 on the week, Breaux was named the MACCC Goalkeeper of the Week. The league announced the honor Tuesday.
Breaux split the net with Kylie Dailey (Lucedale; George County) in Pearl River's 1-1 tie at East Central earlier in the week. The 5-foot-5 keeper turned away five shots in the tie.
Breaux later backstopped the Wildcats to a 2-1 victory over then-No. 18 Itawamba in PRCC's home debut. Against the Indians, Breaux tied a career high with six saves.
The Wildcats are coming off of a thrilling 1-0 victory over No. 6 Jones College after Erin Clifford stunned the Bobcats in the first overtime frame with a free kick goal from about 40 yards out.
