POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced its Players of the Week on Tuesday, and No. 1 Pearl River softball's Shania Fondren (Batesville; South Panola) earned the honor.

Fondren went 5-for-10 with seven RBIs and four runs scored in doubleheaders against No. 6 Jones College and East Mississippi. She hit two home runs, a double, stole two bases and drew four walks.

The freshman third baseman is hitting .456 with a .506 on-base percentage and a 1.294 slugging percentage through 24 games. Her 17 home runs put her one shy of PRCC's single-season record of 18. Of her 31 hits, 55 percent have left the yard and 74 percent have been for extra bases. She has driven in 47 runs and scored 28, striking out six times while walking 10.
