POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Pearl River softball team now knows what its upcoming schedule under first-year head coach Christie Meeks will look like after announcing the 2020 slate Friday.
"I like our schedule because it's so tough," PRCC coach Christie Meeks said. "We're playing a lot of tough games early on and I think that's going to prepare us for our conference games. One thing we've been talking to our girls about is the process and not the outcome."
NON-CONFERENCE
The Wildcats' non-conference schedule will feature some tough teams throughout the region. PRCC opens the season when they head to Dothan, Ala., to play Georgia Military College (Feb. 9) before traveling to Coastal Alabama-South (Feb. 11). The Wildcats open home play with Baton Rouge (Feb. 15) and then travel to Northwest Florida (Feb. 18) before hosting Des Moines and Northwest Florida (Feb. 29).
"Our preseason is about the process and getting prepared for conference play," Meeks said.
MACJC ACTION
The Wildcats open MACJC play in Senatobia when they take on Northwest (March 6). PRCC then has a four series home stretch starting with LSU-Eunice (March 11), Southwest (March 18), Northeast (March 21) and arch rival Gulf Coast (March 25).
The Wildcats then hit the road to take on Coahoma (March 28) and Jones College (March 31).
PRCC comes back home and faces Itawamba (April 3), East Central (April 6) and East Mississippi (April 8).
The Wildcats go on a four series road trip to take on Mississippi Delta (April 17), Co-Lin (April 22), Meridian (April 25) and Hinds (April 28).
PRCC ends its regular season when it takes on Holmes (May 1).
"Our conference play is the most important part of the season," Meeks said. "We have to win the games we need to win and compete in the ones we expect to compete in. It would be phenomenal to sweep at home and split on the road in conference play.
"That's every coach's dream."
GAME FORMATS
Every series with the exception of Georgia Military College, Northwest Florida (Feb. 18) and Des Moines.
RECENT COMMITMENT
Standout shortstop Brooke Fagan (Kiln; Hancock) recently committed to the University of North Alabama after a phenomenal freshmen season.
In 2019 Fagan appeared in 49 games hitting .355 and 25 RBIs while earning a spot on the All-Region XXIII and All-MACJC teams.
