MAGNOLIA, Ark. — The Pearl River rodeo team turned in a strong showing at the Southern Arkansas Rodeo over the weekend, placing five athletes in the championship round. Despite the solid start, the Wildcats couldn't maintain their momentum down the stretch, with the men's team finishing ninth overall and the women's team narrowly missing the leaderboard.
Sophomore Tate Joiner (Husser, La.; Loranger) continued his stellar start to the 2025–26 campaign in calf roping. Joiner clocked an 11.9-second run in the first round, placing him fourth heading into the short round. Although he was unable to post a qualifying time in the finals, his first-round effort earned him 30 valuable points toward the season standings.
In breakaway roping, Darby Poole (Robertsdale, Ala.) advanced to the short round after turning in an impressive 2.9-second run in the opening go. Like several others in the field, Poole was unable to record a time in the championship round but continued to build consistency early in the season.
Tyler Porter (Tylertown) had a strong start in steer wrestling, throwing down a 7.6-second run in the first round to claim fourth place and 30 points. His momentum didn't carry into the short round, but his early effort gave the Wildcats another solid performance.
In team roping, Ryan Bracey (Darbun; West Marion) and Dalton Norris (Lafayette, Ala.; Chambers Academy) combined for a steady weekend. The duo squeaked into the short round after a 13.5-second opening run and improved to 12.8 seconds in the finals, finishing fifth overall in average and collecting 40 total points.
Overall, the Wildcats showcased strong individual efforts and steady improvement across the board, continuing to gain valuable experience early in the Ozark Region schedule.
