Pearl River rodeo shines at West Alabama

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Pearl River rodeo team turned in a strong performance at the West Alabama Rodeo, with the men's team finishing fourth overall and the women's team placing seventh.

"Most of the athletes who placed — and performed really well — were freshmen, so I'm really excited about how this year may play out," head coach Frank Graves said. "I've got a few more who were really close to winning events up there, but things just didn't go our way."

MEN'S RESULTS

In steer wrestling, both Porter and Tate Joiner advanced to the short round. Joiner clocked a 7.3 in the first round to narrowly qualify, while Porter's 5.3-second run placed him third heading into the short round. Joiner came back strong to win the short round in 4.3 seconds and placed third in the average, earning 100 points. Porter posted a 6.8 in the short round and finished fifth in average, securing 75 points.
