POPLARVILLE — Pearl River Community College's 4-0 start to the soccer season is starting to garner attention.

The Wildcats were one of three teams to receive votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches NJCAA Top 20 poll. PRCC is also the only MACJC program represented in the ranking.

Through for contests, opponents haven't stayed within three goals of the Wildcats; PRCC beat Itawamba 4-0 in the season opener, won 3-0 at Holmes, defeated East Central 10-2 and most recently won at archrival Mississippi Gulf Coast 5-1.

"It is a huge honor to be recognized nationally but we still have so much left in the season," PRCC coach Drew Gallant said. "Every game is a test for us and if we do not perform to our best we can lose a game easily."

NATIONAL LEADERBOARD

The Wildcats currently have several players appearing on the NJCAA statistical leaderboard. Jevaun Ennis (Maypen, Jamaica) is currently tied for fourth nationally with six goals and 10th with 13 points. Bo Bowman (Bay St. Louis) is tied for 14th with five goals, sixth with 14 points, and sixth with four assists. Kealan Baggett (Ocean Springs), Daminik White (Kingston, Jamaica) and Cooper Grafe (Kiln; Hancock) are also tied with four assists apiece.

In goal, Kobe Lie (Hattiesburg; North Forrest) has been one of the top keepers in the league. The sophomore is tied for tops nationally with four wins, 12th in saves (24), 28th in goals against average (0.53) and 18th in save percentage (.923).

NEXT UP

The Wildcats were originally scheduled to play Southwest Mississippi Community College at home Tuesday, but that match was rescheduled to Sept. 19 due to Tropical Storm Gordon. As a result of the schedule adjustment, the team won't be back on the pitch until Friday when the Wildcats host Meridian. The women will open the doubleheader with a 5 p.m. start. The men will play two hours later.
