Tubb Leads Pearl River Men’s Golf at Charles Cooper Classic

GULFPORT, Miss. —The Pearl River men's golf team wrapped up play at the Charles Cooper Classic on Tuesday, finishing 15th overall after carding an 80-over-par total across three rounds at Windance Country Club.  

Pearl River opened play Monday with two rounds on the first day of the two-day tournament, posting a team score of 31-over par in the opening round. Freshman Seth Tubb (Hattiesburg; Presbyterian Christian) paced the Wildcats early, firing a 75 in the first round to set the tone for the team. 

Jeremiah Cochran (Gautier; Covenant Christian Academy) followed suit with a strong performance, carding a 78 that included a two-under-par effort on the front nine. Close behind was Riley Barnett (Lakeville, Minn; Lakeville South), who turned in an 83 highlighted by two birdies and a front-nine 41. 

Next in line for the Wildcats was Will Dickerson (Gautier), who carded an 84 in the opening round. Travis Bourland (Long Beach) followed with an 87, highlighted by birdies on the 5th and 12th holes and a strong 39 on the front nine. 

Round two proved to be the Wildcats' best performance of the tournament, as they combined for a 19-over-par team score and tallied nine birdies. Leading the charge was the freshman Barnett, who went one under par on the front nine and finished three over par on the back to post an impressive 74. 

Cochran turned in a 75 for the second round, highlighted by four birdies and impressive stretches of seven and six holes played at one under par. Tubb followed closely with a steady 76, including a front-nine 37. 

Dickerson added an 82 for the Wildcats, recording a birdie on the par-5 16th, while the sophomore Bourland capped day one with an 84, finishing strong with a birdie on the par-3 15th. 

Pearl River closed out the tournament with a 30-over-par team score in the final round, highlighted by four birdies on the front nine, all by different players. 

Once again, Tubb led the way for the Wildcats, posting a final-round 77. Tubb found momentum with birdies on the par-4 6th and par-3 15th holes, stringing together stretches of four and five holes played at one under par. 

Cochran posted a 78 in the third round, good for second-best on the day for the Wildcats. He gained momentum with a birdie on the par-4 6th hole and carried it into the back nine, where he shot a team-low 38. 

Dickerson carded an 80 in the third round, including a front-nine 38 and a six-hole stretch played at one over par. Travis Bourland got off to a strong start with a birdie on the par-3 third hole and finished the round with a 39 on the front nine, ending the day with an 83. 

Barnett rounded out the tournament for Pearl River with an 84, highlighted by a birdie on the par-4 sixth hole, which carried a round-three average of 4.04 for the tournament.
