POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The postseason honors continue to roll in for Pearl River men's basketball, as freshman guard Christian Gilliland (Memphis, Tenn.; ABC Prep) was named NJCAA All-America Honorable Mention.
"Unbelievably proud for Christian and his family for his accomplishments this year," head coach Chris Oney said. "The work that he put in throughout the year doesn't make his achievements on the basketball court a surprise at all. He's definitely the definition of what you put in is what you get out. He was truly a joy to coach and will go down as one of the great Wildcats to play here."
Gilliland becomes the ninth All-American in program history and the first Wildcat to earn the distinction since Jaronn Wilkens accomplished the feat in back-to-back seasons in 2020-21 and 2021-22.
The honor adds to an already decorated debut season for Gilliland, who was previously named First Team All-MACCC and the conference's Freshman of the Year.
Gilliland delivered one of the most dynamic freshman seasons in the NJCAA, establishing himself as one of the top scorers in the country. Appearing in all 31 games, he averaged 23.2 points per contest while shooting 54.7 percent from the field and an impressive 45.1 percent from 3-point range.
The Memphis native was equally effective at the free-throw line, converting 88.8 percent of his attempts. In addition to his scoring prowess, Gilliland contributed 3.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
Gilliland will now take his talents to Southern Illinois next season.
