POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River football's Cory Jackson (Petal) made an immediate impact on special teams last Thursday, earning Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
Jackson's dynamic play helped Pearl River claim two of the three MACCC weekly awards, joining Kedrick Triplett (Florence, Ala.), who earned Offensive Player of the Week honors for the same game.
Jackson was a game-changer as a kick returner in the Wildcats' thrilling 48-42 win over Itawamba, returning three kickoffs for 124 yards, including a 90-yard touchdown return on the opening kickoff that set the tone for the high-scoring victory. His 41.3-yard average per return in the game gave Pearl River excellent field position throughout and kept momentum firmly in the Wildcats' favor.
Through six attempts this season, Jackson is averaging 31.7 yards per kickoff return, establishing himself as one of the league's most dangerous return specialists.
