Pearl River baseball earns 8 All-MACCC selections

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — The Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference announced its All-Conference teams this week, and Pearl River baseball once again found itself well represented.

The Wildcats placed eight players on the All-MACCC teams, highlighted by four First Team selections, three Second Team honorees and one Honorable Mention recipient. Additionally, Coy Clements (Hattiesburg; Oak Grove) was named the MACCC Player of the Year, while Michael Avalon earned MACCC Coach of the Year honors.

First Team honors went to Drew Harrison (Madison; Germantown), Landon Watts (Picayune), Coy Clements and Jackson Estes (Madison; Germantown). JP Abt (Brandon; Hartfield Academy), Chap Cook (Canton; Canton Academy) and Nico Williams (Gulfport) earned Second Team recognition. Gatlin Pitts (Fairhope, Ala.; Bayside Academy) was selected Honorable Mention.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Clements earned the conference's top individual honor after putting together one of the most dominant offensive seasons in the country. The sophomore catcher hit .392 with 73 hits, 24 home runs and 71 RBIs while scoring 63 runs.

The Oak Grove product reached base at a .532 clip and slugged .844, helping lead Pearl River to one of the nation's most productive offenses. His 24 home runs ranked among the national leaders and are tied for the second-most in a single season in program history.

DREW HARRISON
Harrison established himself as one of the premier starters in the MACCC during his sophomore campaign. The right-hander went 11-1 in 17 starts, tossing 81.2 innings with 96 strikeouts and a 3.53 ERA.

He finished the season with two complete games and held opponents to just 73 hits while helping anchor the Wildcat rotation.

LANDON WATTS
Watts excelled in a variety of roles throughout the season and was one of the conference's most reliable arms. The sophomore posted a 7-3 record with five saves and a 2.83 ERA across 60.1 innings.

He struck out 76 batters, allowed just 49 hits and finished the year with a 1.09 WHIP.

JACKSON ESTES
Estes emerged as one of the nation's most dangerous hitters during his freshman season. The Germantown product led Pearl River with a .423 batting average and 82 hits while adding 13 home runs and a team-high 75 RBIs.

He also collected 19 doubles, scored 68 runs and finished the year with a .502 on-base percentage and .763 slugging percentage.

JP ABT
One of the Wildcats' most valuable two-way players, Abt made an impact both at the plate and on the mound. The freshman finished 7-0 with a 3.54 ERA and 45 strikeouts across 48.1 innings.

He also appeared in 34 games offensively, driving in six runs while helping Pearl River capture a national championship.

CHAP COOK
Cook continued to be one of the league's most consistent run producers during his sophomore season. The infielder hit .346 with 66 hits, 16 home runs and 66 RBIs.

He added 51 runs scored and a .639 slugging percentage while serving as a key middle-of-the-order bat for the Wildcats.

NICO WILLIAMS
Williams shined as one of Pearl River's top two-way contributors. At the plate, he hit .331 with 12 home runs, 42 RBIs and 40 runs scored.

On the mound, Williams made five appearances and helped the Wildcats with three victories during the year.

GATLIN PITTS
Pitts earned Honorable Mention recognition after serving as one of the catalysts for Pearl River's offense. The sophomore infielder batted .335 with 70 hits, 75 runs scored and nine home runs.

He also drew 44 walks, stole 31 bases and posted a .466 on-base percentage while setting the tone atop the lineup.

COACH OF THE YEAR
Avalon was named MACCC Coach of the Year after leading Pearl River to another conference championship and one of the nation's top regular-season resumes.

The Wildcats have spent the majority of the season ranked near the top of the national polls and enter postseason play with 50 victories and aspirations of making another deep postseason run.
