Pearl River's Michael Avalon tabbed MACCC/Region 23 Coach of the Year

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Just weeks after guiding Pearl River to one of the best seasons in program history, head baseball coach Michael Avalon has racked up several prestigious honors. Avalon has been named MACCC Coach of the Year, Region 23 Coach of the Year, and ABCA/ATEC Gulf Co-Coach of the Year.

"I'm thankful and humbled to be named the MACCC and Region 23 Coach of the Year as well as ABCA/ATEC Gulf Co-Coach of the Year," Avalon said. "This recognition is without a doubt a reflection of our players and assistant coaches — a special group that showed up every day and fought through the toughest schedule in the country en route to a record-setting and unforgettable year. I'm grateful to have been part of their journey."

The 2025 campaign was one to remember for Pearl River. The Wildcats went 25-3 in MACCC play, securing back-to-back conference titles and their fourth in five seasons. PRCC followed that up with a Region 23 Championship to punch its ticket to the NJCAA World Series, where the Wildcats advanced all the way to the national title game and finished as National Runner-up.

Pearl River's 53 wins were the most in program history, while the 25 conference victories tied last year's total for the most in MACCC history. The Wildcats were ranked No. 2 or better in every NJCAA regular-season poll.

The Wildcats also hauled in a slew of individual honors. Ten players earned All-MACCC recognition, six were named All-Region 23, and five were tabbed NJCAA All-Americans: KK Clark (Brandon), Caston Thompson (Jayess; Brookhaven Academy), Jacob Keys (Brandon), Topher Jones (Hernando), and Jacob Johnson (Carriere; Pearl River Central). Additionally, Keys claimed the program's fourth-ever ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove.
