HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The Pearl River archery team opened its spring slate in impressive fashion Saturday, collecting four medal finishes at the USA Archery Mississippi Indoor State and JOAD Championship hosted by William Carey.

"The main goal for this competition was to see where our archers were at and get them used to what things are like at this level of tournament — and they did great," head coach Kyle Moss said. "Overall, we really rose to the occasion. They let their training kick in and take over. I was proud of their efforts and the level of sportsmanship that was shown throughout the tournament." 

Pearl River dominated the Fixed Pins U21 division with three Wildcats earning medals. Easton Shoemake (Collins; West Jones) led the field with a gold-medal score of 548, while Trey Winston (Flowood; Northwest Rankin) followed close behind with a silver-medal performance at 526. Wheeler Chandler (Winona) rounded out the podium, taking bronze with a score of 473.

In the Fixed Pins U21 women's division, Cherianne McCarter (Louin; Raleigh) delivered a clutch performance to claim first place, edging the field by seven points with a winning total of 511. Abigail Robertson (Petal) added a fourth-place finish with a score of 216.

Regan Brown (Mendenhall; Simpson Academy) and Ashlynn Juneau (Picayune) turned in solid rounds in the Compound U21 women's division, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

Jaxon Martin capped the Wildcats' medal haul with a third-place finish in the Compound Senior Men division, posting a score of 548. Martin managed to hit 10s on 20 of his shots, placing behind a pair of William Carey senior archers.

Pearl River returns to the shooting line February 27–March 1 at the 2026 USA Archery JOAD Indoor Nationals.

"We're going to really focus on fine-tuning equipment and rebuilding form as we prepare for our next tournament," Moss said.
