Pearl River's Morgan Mears tabbed MACCC Defensive Player of the Week

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River volleyball's Morgan Mears (Hurley; East Central) has been a steady force at the net all season, and her efforts this past week earned her recognition as the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Mears' award pairs with Avery Wheat's (Gonzales, La.; East Ascension) Offensive Player of the Week honor, giving the Wildcats a clean sweep of the league's weekly accolades.

The sophomore middle blocker opened the week against Gulf Coast with two blocks and three digs in a 3-1 rivalry victory. She followed with three more blocks in PRCC's matchup against Jones College. Mears then anchored the defense at the Lurleen B. Wallace Tournament, where she totaled 12 blocks and six digs across four matches, bringing her weekly totals to 17 blocks and nine digs over six matches.

On the season, Mears has compiled 70 kills, six assists, 25 digs, and 31 total blocks, providing a consistent defensive presence for the Wildcats.
