POPLARVILLE, Miss — Pearl River's softball team hopes to have a memorable homecoming this weekend when it hosts its annual Wildcat Invitational at Lady Wildcat Stadium.

PRCC (1-1 overall) is returning home after splitting two games in Pensacola, Fla., last weekend winning its first game against Roane State 11-2 before dropping a 4-2 decision to host Pensacola State College.

PRCC coach Leigh White was glad her team played with intensity but also stressed that she wants to see that on a consistent basis. 

"We faced some solid competition and our kids came out ready," White said. "Everyone anticipates Opening Day so it's easy to come out there with a high but we've talked to them about how they should treat every game like Opening Day so hopefully they come out with the same fire in them." 

PRCC will get the action started Friday when it take on Marion Military Institute (2-2) at 2 p.m., and then take on LSU-Eunice (7-2) at 6. 

The Lady Wildcats will pick up the action the following day when they take on Baton Rouge (0-4) at 4 and 6 p.m. 

White is familiar with what her team is going to face this weekend. 

"LSU-Eunice can hit. They've always been able to hit. They're going to play good defense and have good pitchers so we're going to have to go out there and match up with them and compete, " White said. "Marion Military can hit and they have power. That staff works those kids hard. They're scrappy. I know Baton Rouge is a scrappy team as well."  

PRCC will be the home team in each of its games. All games will be seven innings, with a run rule in effect.
