SENATOBIA, Miss. — The Pearl River Wildcats had no problem dispatching Northwest on Friday, sweeping the Rangers 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-20).
The win improves PRCC's record to 8-5 overall.
The victory also gives Pearl River a four-match sweep over the Rangers. PRCC picked up a 3-2 victory in their first meeting on the year but has swept the last three meetings, all coming within the last week.
On Friday, the Wildcats opened the match with a 25-19 victory.
Both the second and third sets were very similar, with the Wildcats taking control early. Pearl River never let the host Rangers get their footing, cruising to 25-14 and 25-20 victories.
"It's tough to beat a team four times in a season but we showed up focused and stayed disciplined throughout and were able to do just that," PRCC coach Haley Chatham said.
The second-year head coach highlighted the play of freshman Leighton Willoughby (Brandon; Northwest Rankin).
"Leighton's blocking was near perfect today," she said.
The Wildcats have a busy week ahead with three matches lined up in the near future.
Pearl River visits Pensacola State College for a 6 p.m. start. PRCC then returns home for its final two matches of the season, starting Thursday against Itawamba. PRCC bounces right back to host Judson College on Friday for Sophomore Night. Both home matches are set for 5 p.m. starts.
