RIDGELAND, Miss. — The Pearl River women's soccer team dropped its first game of the year when it fell to No. 2 Holmes 2-0 on Friday afternoon.
"We're pleased with how the girls played today," head coach Henrik Madsen said. "With Holmes being the odds on favorite to win I thought the girls played very hard and left it all out there."
The Wildcats (0-1 overall, MACCC) played a closely contested defensive game heading into the half deadlocked at 0-0.
"I thought they followed the game plan that we laid out for them," Madsen said. "We had a couple chances for some counters too and I thought we got something from everybody today."
It was in the final 20 minutes of the contest when Holmes (1-0) finally broke through and scored a goal to make it 1-0 before following that up with another goal about 10 minutes later.
The Wildcats return to action next Tuesday when they travel to Decatur to take on East Central. The game is set to start at 5 p.m.
