Pearl River drops doubleheader to Coastal Alabama-South

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Pearl River Community College softball team hit a snag Tuesday night when it dropped its doubleheader against Coastal Alabama-South 4-3 and 4-0.

"We had an opportunity to finish but we made some untimely errors," Pearl River coach Christie Meeks said. "Those are things we have to adjust to better. The girls are playing really hard and controlling the speed of the game they just need to work on finishing it."

GAME 1: Coastal Alabama-South 4, Pearl River 3

The Wildcats (2-4 overall) got the scoring started in the first at bat when freshmen Sydney Runnels (Seminary; South Jones) smashed a solo homer to center field in the top of the first to give the Wildcats an early lead.

Raegan Havard (Lucedale; George County) added to the Wildcat lead with an RBI double to give Pearl River a 2-0 lead.

Coastal Alabama (6-2) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, scoring on a fast ball to cut the lead to one.

The Wildcats added to their lead with a double from Faith McKenzie (Fairhope, Ala.) to extend the deficet to two.

The bottom of the fourth saw Coastal Alabama tie the game scoring two runners on a Wildcat error to deadlock the game at 3-3.

The deciding run came in the bottom of the seventh when Coastal Alabama walked off the Wildcats with an RBI single.

Runnels, Havard and McKenzie each had one hit and one RBI.

Gracie Barnett (Vancleave) got the start for the Wildcats, allowing six hits, four walks and only one earned run on the night.

GAME 2: Coastal Alabama-South 4, Pearl River 0

The Wildcats had a hard time getting anything going offensively in the second game.
