POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River sophomores Elizabeth Taggard (Picayune) and Mary Grace Turner (Leakesville; Greene County) are continuing to garner attention from observers, weeks after the 2019 softball season concluded.
Turner was already named to the All-Region XXIII and MACJC First Team squads while Taggard was a MACJC Second Team selection. On Friday, both Turner and Taggard were named All-America honorable mentions by Fastpitch News.
Turner had a record-setting season for PRCC as she slugged a program-high 18 homers. Her round trippers also ranked fifth nationally. The William Carey signee also hit .397 with 48 RBIs and 16 doubles in addition to playing masterfully behind the plate. Turner was named the MACJC Player of the Week once this season.
Like Turner, Taggard was a terrifying sight for opposing pitching. Taggard led the Lady Wildcats with a .445 average, .537 OBP, 22 doubles and 55 RBIs. She also hit 12 home runs. The Belhaven commit earned MACJC Player of the Week honors twice.
In addition to Taggard and Turner, several other Wildcats were honored this post-season.
Freshman shortstop Brooke Fagan was an All-Region and MACJC First Team selection, while both freshman pitcher Grace Stringer (Moselle; South Jones) and freshman third baseman BreAnna Corkern (Watson, La.; Live Oak) joined Taggard on the MACJC Second Team.
