Pearl River opens season with dominant win on the road

RIDGELAND, Miss. — The Pearl River men's soccer team started off its season with a dominant win on the road over South division foe Holmes Friday afternoon 5-0.

"I think we settled in in the second half," head coach Drew Gallant said. "We played a lot better in the second half and got it done."

The Wildcats (1-0 overall, MACCC 1-0) got on the board first in the first half with a goal from Ryley Smith (Manchester, England; Castlebrook) on a penalty kick. PRCC took the 1-0 lead into the half.

"We were lucky to only be up 1-0 going into halftime," Gallant said. "We settled in and opened some things up with our passing. Holmes did a very good job in the first half of pressing us. We probably had twice as many opportunities in the second half then we did in the first."

The second half saw the Wildcats explode offensively.

Mohamed Diallo (Gulfport) scored the second goal of the game to make it 2-0 Wildcats.

Goals from Jamie Chamberlain (London, England; Dover Athletic Academy) and Andre Nicholson (Kingston, Jamaica; Clarendon College) made it 4-0 PRCC before Trey Ray (Poplarville) scored just before the game ended.
