Undefeated Pearl River clinches playoff birth with dominant win over Meridian

MERIDIAN, Miss. — The Pearl River Wildcats administered a dominant performance against Meridian Tuesday night, beating the Eagles 8-0.

PRCC put on an offensive show with all eight of its goals coming from different players.

With the win the Wildcats have clinched a spot in the MACJC state playoffs.

"We were able to bring in players that kept our standards high and that was great to see," PRCC coach Drew Gallant said. "It makes a big difference when you have that kind of depth. There's only been one or two games where we've been at full strength. It's nice to be able to work all these kids in that way we know they're ready when their time comes."

The Wildcats (7-0-1 overall, 5-0 South) got the scoring started early when Tres Ray (Poplarville) put the Wildcats on the board 1-0.

Taja Brown (Water House, Jamaica; Clarendon College) wasn't far behind scoring the second goal for the Wildcats just a couple minutes later.

Shande James (Trench Town, Jamaica; Clarendon College) scored the third goal of the night.

Caleb Burke (Ocean Springs) scored the Wildcats fourth goal right before they went into halftime up 4-0 over the Eagles (4-6-1 overall, 2-3 South)

Andrew Holland (Moss Point; Resurrection Catholic) scored in the 49th minute to extend the Wildcat lead to 5-0.

The Wildcats would further their lead with goals from Kealan Baggett (Ocean Springs) and August Harp (Jackson; Murrah) in the 62nd and 64th minutes.

Jonovan Cucurullo (Waveland; Bay) put the exclamation point on the contest scoring the eighth and final goal of the night for the Wildcats in the 82nd minute.
