Pearl River men’s soccer flexes its muscles against Jones

ELLISVILLE, Miss.—The Pearl River men's soccer team dominated rival Jones College Friday night 4-0.

"I think we finished our chances very well tonight," Pearl River head coach Drew Gallant said. "We scored some amazing goals."

The Wildcats (4-0-1 overall, 4-0-1 MACJC) got the scoring started early when Shande James (Trench Town, Jamaica; Clarendon College High) crushed a ball to past the Jones goalkeeper to put the Wildcats up 1-0 in the 13th minute.

Jones (4-3 overall, 2-2 MACJC) could not stop the Wildcats, in particular Miguel Hernandez (Gulfport) who earned a hat trick tonight, scoring his first two goals in the first half to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.

"Miguel was fantastic tonight," Gallant said. "He scored that first goal early on which I think was huge for him and us."

Hernandez completed the hat trick in the 59th minute to give the Wildcats the 4-0 lead.

Another impressive performance came from keeper John Bowman (Bay St. Louis; Bay High) who had four saves on the night.

The Wildcats return to action Tuesday when they take on East Central in Poplarville at 7 p.m.
