VICKSBURG, Miss. — The Pearl River Wildcats got off to a hot start but ultimately could not capitalize to start the season with a win battling to a 1-1 tie against Hinds Monday night.
The Wildcats led for the majority of the game but were unable to add to their lead in the second half which ultimately proved costly.
PRCC coach Drew Gallant felt that the Wildcats put themselves in the right positions but could not finish to extend the lead.
"We had a lot of opportunities in this game," Gallant said. "We're just not finishing with goals. I think our systems working but we're just not finishing."
PRCC (0-0-1) protected their lead for the majority of the second half playing sound defense and continued to be the aggressor in the contest.
"We played defense well," Gallant said. "We weren't really giving up anything in the box, Hinds just made a really good play."
With time winding down in the second half, Hinds (0-0-1) finally caught a break and capitalized to tie the game.
Neither team could break through and score a goal in the overtime period ending the game.
The Wildcats will look to pick up their first win of the season Wednesday night when they travel a state over to take on LSU-Eunice at 6:30 p.m.
PRCC will follow that up by hosting Meridian in their home opener on Friday at 7 p.m.
