Pearl River’s Noah Mitchell named MACCC Defensive Player of the Week

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River linebacker Noah Mitchell (Leakesville; Greene County) has been named the MACCC's Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. 

The sophomore linebacker has been one of the premier defenders in the conference all season and was honored by the MACCC following his latest standout performance.

In PRCC's 28-21 win over East Central last Thursday, Mitchell finished with 14 tackles, 1.5 sacks and four tackles-for-loss. He also picked off a pass for the second straight week; his interception against ECCC paved the way for a go-ahead touchdown two plays later.

Mitchell has maintained his spot atop the MACCC's defensive leaderboard through three games, averaging 14.7 tackles per game. His 44 total tackles are also tops in the conference. He's also tied for second in the conference with two interceptions. 

The Wildcats (1-2 overall) have a bye this week before visiting Jones College on Oct. 29. PRCC will play at Dobie Holden Stadium for the final time in 2020 on Nov. 5 when the Wildcats host Southwest for homecoming. Kickoff against the Bears is scheduled for 7 p.m.

PRCC will conclude its season Nov. 12 at Hinds.
