JACKSON, Miss. — The 2020 MACJC football schedule is beginning to solidify.

The following proposals were approved by the MACJC presidents on Tuesday:

  • The 2020 MACJC football regular season will commence on Sept. 10
  • The 2020 MACJC football regular season will consist of eight regular season games, with a four team playoff format

The conference will hold a virtual Media Day on Aug. 14.

Pearl River's entire schedule will be released at a later date.

Once the 2020 season kicks off, the Wildcats will be led by new coach Seth Smith. The PRCC alum was hired following the completion of the '19 campaign.

PRESEASON ALL-AMERICAN
Leading the group of returners Smith has at his disposal is sophomore linebacker Noah Mitchell (Leakesville; Greene County). The linebacker was among the country's top tacklers as a freshman. His 11.4 tackles-per-game average was fourth in the NJCAA. Last week, JCGridiron.com named Mitchell to its Preseason All-America Second Team.

MORE GOOD NEWS
Graduated Wildcat Ronald Baker (Prentiss; Jefferson Davis) was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American on June 15. The honor was a first for PRCC.

Baker was a two year starter and eventual team captain for Pearl River. After coming off the bench in his PRCC debut in 2018, Baker made 17 consecutive starts in the defensive backfield and finished his Pearl River career with 68 tackles with 11 pass breakups.

Baker was a mainstay on PRCC's President's List during his JUCO academic career and finished his time at PRCC with a 4.0 GPA.

Baker plans to attend Mississippi State in the fall and will continue his studies in mechanical engineering.
