POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Alanna Smith (Picayune) and Cameron Smith (Okolona) are the latest Pearl River student athletes to be named Forrest Health Wildcats of the Week.
This is the first time Cameron and Alanna have earned the honor.
Alanna had a breakout performance in last week's 61-57 win over the previously undefeated East Mississippi Lions. The sophomore guard led PRCC (3-1 overall) with 17 points. She also had three assists, two steals and one rebound in 29 minutes.
Her 17 points were a season high through four games. Smith is currently third on the team in scoring, averaging 8.5 points per game. She's also second on the team in helpers, averaging 4.3 assists per game.
Cameron helped lead No. 10 Pearl River (5-0) to an undefeated mark in last week's Wildcat Classic. The sophomore forward netted his first double-double in PRCC's 104-57 win over Baton Rouge, scoring a team-high 17 points with 11 rebounds; both totals are a season-high for Smith. He also recorded three assists and a steal in the win.
The next night, Smith scored five points and added two assists with three steals.
Smith is averaging 8.4 ppg.
The PRCC men return to the court Monday for a 3 p.m. meeting against Bevill State as part of the East Central Classic. PRCC is scheduled to play the Mississippi State club team at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The PRCC women aren't back on the hardwood until Dec. 6, when they host Gadsden State at 5:30 p.m.
