POPLARVILLE – Mother Nature couldn't keep the Wildcats down Friday afternoon as approximately 60 players teed off in the inaugural PRCC Wildcat Football Golf Tournament at Millbrook Golf and Country Club in Picayune.

The event was held to raise funds for the Pearl River Community College football program in anticipation of the 2018 season.

"We're very happy with the turnout for our first annual event," said Wildcat football coach ted Egger. "We want this tournament to grow into a regular feature on the spring calendar. The main thing is for everyone to have fun."

The tournament, in a four-player scramble format, featured a number of special prizes, including closest-to-the hole, longest putt, longest drive and a special prize of a recreational vehicle for any player who made a hole-in-one on one of the par-3 holes.

There was also a raffle of PRCC-themed merchandise and a football autographed by Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre.

Although play was suspended early in the round by a brief thundershower, the round picked up after the bad weather moved out of the area.
